Coffee Futures Quotes
Different commodities are quoted in different trading units. Commodity
and futures prices like coffee prices are usually quoted the same way prices that are quoted in the cash market (physical
market). That is, in dollars, cents, and sometimes fractions of a cent. Coffee prices
are quoted in US$ per pound. Be certain you understand the price quotation system for the particular commodity that you consider
trading. The coffee futures price is different than the coffee
options price. The ICE Coffee "C" futures contract is a contract for future physical delivery of
37,500 punds of arabica coffee; therefore, every $.01/pound move in the coffee futures market equals $375. You have
the option to take physical delivery of the coffee if you buy a futures contract or an option on futures contract; however,
the vast majority of the futures positions are offset well before delivery. Generally coffee buyers use the spot cash market if they are interested in coffee for immediate delivery.
